This story was inspired by my personal experience as an international student in the U.S., coupled with observations from my friends. Many of us arrived here alone, not knowing anyone, and were often thrust into the process of growing up—learning how to navigate solitude, make new friends, and assimilate into a new culture.
It all began with our dreams, the dream to be ourselves and pursue what we love. The journey to the U.S. wasn’t easy for many of us; it's an American dream that not everyone is fortunate enough to afford, and numerous parents have to work tirelessly to overcome financial challenges.
Being far from our families, we miss them. Sometimes, a sudden late-night call is enough to make our hearts race, only to find out they simply missed us. In Asia, at least for my parents, 'I love you' was seldom spoken, but I could feel their warmth in their selfless actions—unwavering support, care, and love.
In this film, I aim to capture the subtle details that become apparent when distanced from home, encapsulating the warmth found in unexpected places and the growth that accompanies the journey. These voices echo from the depths of my heart—shared memories and feelings that resonate with many foreign students and parents. It’s a story that belongs to us, narrating our lives living in the U.S.
Dream On.
